Thank you for trusting me to paint my interpretation of your beloved pet! I will do my very best to paint you a picture that will show your pet's personality, and warm every person's heart.
I do not try to give you a photo-perfect image. Your personal watercolor picture will be my interpretation of the picture you supply me. As you can see from my samples, I try to capture the pet's character and feelings that make them such a part of the family. I hope you love what you see!
I only paint in the two sizes, and (currently) only in watercolor.
That is a great question! To cut a long story short, a ream of watercolor paper is an imperial measurement of 500 sheets of 22"x30" and weighs 140lb. The moulds are a standard 22x30" size and have been that way for at least 700 years! When those sheets are divided into assorted sizes ensuring the least waste, we end up with set sizes that haven't changed for literally centuries.
Frames and mats are made more for the photographic world...and beside that, Europe has gone metric and the US has not, so nothing fits! However (for example) Ikea (a Scandinavian company and therefore metric) has 12" x 16" frames.
I offer two sizes for simplicity, and those are typically one inch longer (on the longest side) than the very common 6" x 8" and 12" x 15" mats and frames. I make sure that the extra inch in length does not contain anything other than a little more background, so you won't lose anything by covering or cropping around half an inch at both ends.
Strange, but true!
I do not offer framing. Everyone has their own personal taste and room decor when it comes to framed pictures, so you have the opportunity to have your own framing done to your own taste.
Hint on framing: With most art, a small overlap on all sides is needed to secure the paper inside the frame and to prevent it from falling through the mat opening. However, watercolor paper has a tendency to wave, so a larger overlap is recommended—more like ¼ inch to ⅜ inch on all sides.
Your painting arrives rolled in a tube, on its heavy-duty, 140 lb watercolor paper. It ships via USPS Express Mail, ensuring it arrives in pristine condition and ready for framing.
Most portraits are just that... portraits, and that is my default when painting. However on occasion people might prefer a Landscape orientation. If so, please let me know by choosing 'Landscape preferred' from the drop-down when ordering and I will do my very best to fulfill your request. However, please be aware I cannot guarantee to paint it that way as the subject within the supplied picture might not look best in the orientation you desire. If so, I will let you know the limitation.
Your painting will take approximately one week to complete from day of order. Shipping will take approx one week more. Please allow plenty of time if this is a gift!
Please supply just ONE (1) photograph only (per subject), and preferably your very favorite picture!
Yes, I am happy to do that! Perhaps you have two doggies, or maybe a parent and pup. Maybe even a doggie and a kitty! I can include up to three subjects in one portrait, and I can take each subject from different pictures if you like. Each additional subject is an extra $100 to include.
Sadly for us, we outlive our pets. However, that also means that we can give a loving home to many lucky animals over the course of our own lives. The rainbow bridge is a beautifully evocative idea, and hopefully those who have crossed over will be there waiting for you. If you would like my artistic hint at a rainbow as part of my interpretation, please select that option at the time of purchase. Note: there is no extra charge for this.
